From Stanger to Sister (Author: Haerani Ester Siahaan)/Allen Hung

Author: Haerani Ester Siahaan
Just call me Ester, I am from a beautiful country, Indonesia. I’m a graduate student of Curriculum Design and Human Potentials Development. Studying in National Dong Hwa University is a huge miracle for me. Not only because of this amazing college but also the friendly people. I now make a friendship with some Taiwannese girls. They are very cute and friendly. One of them is very closed to me. Who is she?
After staying in students’ dormitory of NDHU for two weeks, I was riding my bike to look for a church and stopped in front of a small building near to the back gate of NDHU. It was in the morning. There, I met a very cute girl. Then, I approached her and asked her about the church in English. I was so happy because she could speak English. Her English name is Purity. I was happier to know that she is christian and do ministry in the church. She said that she and her grandmother staying in that small buliding. After talking a while, we changed cell phone number one each other and I went back to my dormitory.
In the afternoon, she sent me message and invited me to come to her house. I met her grandmother. Then, her grandmother brought me a bowl of warm soup. The soup is very delicious. After that, we went to the church in Mei-Lun. Surprisingly, I met some girls in the church. They are the college students in NDHU. First, I felt so pity because they are still young and beautiful. But they are so friendly and makes me like their sister.
Sometimes, Purity invites me to her house and drink soup together with her grandmother. Her grandmother is very good in cooking. While grandmother cooking, we shared our own culture and talking about hometown, dancing, songs and traditional clothes. I sometimes ask her if I don’t know any information in Chinese. Purity is a very helpful girl.
Every Wednesday night, Purity invites me to attend Bible study group in her house. There, I can meet some Taiwanese girls and boys. They are quiet good in English to make us easy to communicate. In that group, we are talking about God’s words and sharing about experiences. If we have problems, we can share and pray one each other. We sometimes go out to have dinner together.
I feel so blessed to study in this beautiful county. Not only because NDHU is a great college but also the people are friendly and helpful. Purity and others promise to take me around Hualien county at some day. I am so excited to wait that day. I don’t feel like a stranger anymore. I am their sister now.
